As a client with Professional Audiology since the early 2000s, Gerry can attest to how much receiving quality hearing care can make a difference in a person’s day to day.
“It has brought an overwhelming improvement to my quality of life.”
In the past, Gerry had worked in a chemical plant as well as a refinery. Both were noisy environments that didn’t do his hearing any favors. Along with this exposure, Gerry also suffered from otosclerosis – a condition that led to calcification of one of the little bones in his middle ear.
It wasn’t until later in life that Gerry felt the effects of his damaged hearing.
“I was in a conference room with a group of managers getting asked a question, and giving an answer gave me the strangest looks, I knew I did not hear the question correctly.” Gerry said.
“My family was starting to notice too, so once it started to affect both my family and work, I put it all together.”
Gerry went to Professional Audiology in Edmonton and is now equipped with hearing aids. He did have to work to get over being self-conscious about wearing hearing aids in public, something he said took time.
“I didn’t have any hesitancy about getting hearing aids, but I definitely had hesitancy about people seeing that I had hearing aids,” Gerry described.
“It took about a month to get over that. Eventually, you just realize you have to wear these if you want to function in life. You just kind of have to ignore it.”
Over the years, Gerry has gotten to know Professional Audiology’s owner, Kathleen Jones, quite well. As a Doctor in Audiology, Kathleen is an expert in everything related to hearing health.
Kathleen was able to give him a unique perspective that helped him with his initial discomfort with wearing hearing aids in public.
“Kathleen has a hearing impairment as well,” Gerry said. “She understands a person’s initial hesitancy, and she gave her perspective of what it was like to wear hearing aids and to get used to them and to be in a crowd with them because she’s been wearing them since she was a child.”
Gerry is a big fan of the latest hearing aids he got from Professional Audiology. He now can adjust the hearing aid settings from an app on his phone, and he can also use the Bluetooth technology included in the hearing aids to enjoy watching tv without bothering those around him.
“The Bluetooth feature, to me, is amazing,” Gerry said. “I can turn the TV sound completely off and Bluetooth directly to my hearing aid, which is great for my wife because I can watch something that doesn’t interest her. She doesn’t hear the TV at all, and I hear everything.”
Gerry attributes his success in handling his hearing health to Professional Audiology and its experienced staff. He believes they truly want to help their clients improve their standard of living through quality care.
“The level of service is very high,” Gerry said. “They won’t just sell you a pair of hearing aids. They will work with you to ensure you are comfortable with them.”
“They will make sure you are completely satisfied and that your hearing is what you want it to be.”
