How old does a child have to be before their hearing can be accurately tested?
No child is too young to have its hearing assessed. An audiologist can test a child of any age, from birth onward, using objective and subjective tests that help us diagnose hearing loss.
A relative ordered his hearing aid in the mail and it doesn't work well. Should I do that?
No. Although there are advertisements that try to convince you to do just that, a hearing device cannot be "fit" through the mail, or purchased effectively over the Internet. Usually it ends up that the device is never worn.
A hearing device is a sophisticated instrument that cannot be fit properly and effectively without a thorough hearing evaluation and an understanding of the science behind hearing – interpreting what we hear and how hearing needs change depending on lifestyle and communication needs.
Can a hearing aid be fit without a hearing test?
Not really, it would be like fitting glasses without a prescription and you run the risk of wearing a hearing device that is inappropriate for your hearing needs.
Is there funding available for hearing devices?
Yes, there are a variety of programs available depending on your hearing loss situation. Below is a list of some of the programs that are available:

- Library
- Alberta Aids to Daily Living
